My Story - The PutterHead Story |
|
Let me introduce myself: My name is Sam Bankhead, my friends call me “Putter Head”. I was born in Hamlet, N.C., just 30 miles south of Southern Pines and started playing this crazy game when I was 5 years old. When I was a little boy, I truly believed that Moore county was a “Golfers Paradise”. Just the thought of playing these great courses ,Pinehurst Country Club (5 courses), Southern Pines Country Club, Pine Needles, and Mid Pines Country Club, where the legends of the game have played, was a real thrill for me. Well, I just turned 58 years old, live in Moore county, and still believe that we live in “ The Golf Paradise”. The only difference is that we have added more great courses ( Whispering Pines, National, Plantation, Legacy, Foxfire, and many more ) - it just keeps getting better.
The only flaw I could find in paradise is that the Golf Gods do not always bless us with perfect conditions in which to enjoy these great courses. Sometimes it does get too hot or too cold. From time to time we do get rained out. Occasionally we do get a little sleet or snow. And it sometimes seems that the daylight runs out before we have had enough.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the conditions were always perfect ? Then it came to me, I will create an indoor golf facility so that we always have a place to go no matter what conditions mother nature decides to throw at us. A building that would fit everyone’s needs (4,000 square feet) An indoor training range Two golf simulators that play 58 of the greats - Pebble Beach, The Old Course at St. Andrews, and my personal favorite, Pinehurst #2. A Video-Studio (no better way to learn than to see it for yourself). And alounge - must have a place just to chill out. The only indoor facility of its kind! Creating Putter Head’s Indoor Golf is a dream come true for me. If you love the game of golf as much as I have for the past 53 years, you will be welcomed here. Sam “Putter Head” Bankhead
